Accessibility Atrium Project Update

Where We Are Now

In late December, KPMB’s proposal was signed, and project lead Bob Sims immediately began lining up the resources required to move the work forward. Contracts have now been signed with the architects and engineers who contributed to the proposal, and Bob has also secured a colleague to work with him full-time beginning in early February—a meaningful step in keeping progress steady and coordinated.

Next Steps Ahead (February–April 2026)

Over the coming weeks, we can expect several important developments:

  1. Detailed project schedule (next week)
Bob will provide an updated and more detailed schedule to clarify key milestones and decision points.

  2. Heritage discussions with the City (February)
Bob will reach out to the City to set up a heritage discussion in February, an important early step given our historic site and the care required in connecting new work with heritage structures.

  3. Construction Manager (CM) recruitment planning (mid-February to early April)
Rob and Bob have begun early thinking on the recruitment of a Construction Manager (CM)—and the message is clear: it’s not too soon to start identifying strong candidates. The aim is to approach options mid- to late-February, issue a more formal request in March, and wrap up selection by end of March to early April.

  4. Additional technical scopes underway
In parallel, Rob will be following up on scopes for civil and landscape work. Another scope under consideration is an envelope consultant to support quality control where new construction connects to the heritage buildings. Bob is also looking into what is needed (or already in place) for survey work.

Next AAWG checkpoint meeting (late February)

Rob and Bob have agreed to schedule an AAWG meeting later in February, once there is a useful checkpoint for review and decision-making.

This project is about building a church home where participation is not limited by mobility, age, or circumstance—and where our welcome is expressed in the very way our spaces invite people in.
