The Nigel Wright Memorial Fund
The Nigel Wright Memorial Fund aims to complete a project that was near to Nigel’s heart, the Accessibility Atrium, which he was working to bring to fruition at the time of his death. Please click on the thumbnail below for detailed information on this initiative.
If the Nigel Wright Memorial Fund is able to raise gifts and pledges that guarantee the atrium will be paid for in full, this new building will be named in Nigel’s honour. The leadership of the Nigel Wright Memorial Fund has therefore set a campaign goal of five million dollars (CAD $5M) to be fulfilled over the next five years. Thus far, over one hundred donors have given generously to the fund, the vast majority of whom are not affiliated with the parish, and we will be announcing major leadership gifts in June.
If you would like to discuss a potential leadership gift to the fund, please be in touch via wrightmemorial@stthomas.on.ca. In the meantime, the donation of securities and online giving in any amount is available now. Please scroll down for information about making a gift or a pledge to this effort.
We are grateful for your support in finishing the project that Nigel himself was working to complete before he died.
As subdeacon at Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve 2023, reading the Epistle.
It was with great sorrow that we learned of the death of Nigel Wright on September 30, 2025. Nigel was a beloved and devoted member of St. Thomas’s Anglican Church. He attended faithfully during the years he lived in Toronto, often accompanied by his mother.
Nigel served the parish in a variety of roles, including that of acolyte (since 1987) and subdeacon. He was also a churchwarden for four years, during which time St. Thomas’s benefited from his tremendous insights and diplomatic handling of parish matters. Nigel continued his connection with St. Thomas’s after relocating to the UK. (Read Fr. Humphrey's Advent 2025 message about Nigel here.)
With former rector, Fr. Andrews, and fellow church leaders, 2003.
Making St. Thomas’s Accessible to all
We have embarked on a Cornerstone Campaign to raise money to build a new accessibility atrium designed by KPMB Architects (see renderings below), which will include an elevator, ramps, and an accessible washroom on the main level of the church and parish hall. Through the Cornerstone Campaign, the parish hall will become accessible so that the increasing number of Friday Food Ministry guests who arrive in wheelchairs, on motorized scooters, or with walkers can relax in the hall with all the other guests rather than eating in the courtyard in good weather or taking the meal away in bad weather. The project will also make the church accessible for those attending our liturgical services, community concerts, and many other activities. Currently, people using canes and walkers, or those with children in strollers, must struggle up and down several sets of steps.
We can think of no better way to honour Nigel’s memory than through gifts that help St. Thomas’s meet our accessibility goal for all who pass through our doors.
We thank you for your gift as we remember with thanks Nigel’s legacy of faithful service, dedication, and generosity.
